Unemployment Drops In Jefferson, St. Lawrence


The November 2012 unemployment rate dropped ever so slightly in Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties when compared to November, 2011, according to statistics released Thursday by the state Department of Labor.

In Lewis County, unemployment went up slightly, comparing year to year.

In both Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties, the unemployment rate was 9.4 percent in November, 2012. In both counties, it was 9.5 percent in November, 2011.

In Lewis County, unemployment went up from 8.8 percent to 9 percent, from November 2011 to November 2012.

Any way you look at it, unemployment in northern New York remains were it usually is, well above the state's average, which was 7.7 percent in November.

On the plus side, St. Lawrence County is no longer one of the counties in New York with the highest unemployment rate - Bronx, Hamilton, Orleans, Essex and Fulton counties all had higher rates.
