Union Pickets Outside SUNY Potsdam

It's a union versus non-union labor dispute in Potsdam.

The Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers union picketed outside SUNY Potsdam Tuesday.

Members say Tersal Construction, a subcontractor working on the school's new performing arts center, should be hiring local workers instead of non-union workers from Syracuse.

"We're not asking for more money. This is a state-prevailing wage job," said union member Dale Stehlin.

The president of Tersal Construction, Sam Fresina, says almost all of his workers on the job are from the north country.

He says he refuses to sign a union contract because his workers are loyal to him, not to a union.

He has about 18 workers on the job.
