Urns Stolen, Reward Offered

When Julie Derrigo-Intschert came to visit her grandfather's grave last week, instead of seeing the two decorative urns that usually sit on either side, there were just the flowers.

"They took the flowers out of the urn itself and threw them here on the ground," she explained.

And Julie says it's a sign of the times.

"I feel that I'm just a victim of society," she said. "These urns have been here since 1973 and til this date no one has ever touched them.  And then all of a sudden, we just live in this world where everybody thinks they're entitled."

Derrigo-Intschert says the urns were 500 pounds a piece and the thieves must have carried them to the road

"It had to have been more than two to three people that were able to carry them out because there were no tire tracks or  handcart marks," she explained.

After Julie discovered the urns were missing, she contacted state police and placed ads on Craigslist and in the paper, offering 500 dollars for information that leads to an arrest.

The chances of police finding the individuals who stole the urns are likely slim, but Julie still has hope.

"I still believe in my mind that I'm going to get them back. Might not be this year. Might not be next year, but someday I will see those urns again," she said.

There are more than 20 Derrigo plots adjacent to where the urns once sat. The Derrigo family plans to replace the urns if they have to, but Julie Derrigo-Intschert says, she'll never stop looking.
