Watertown Daily Times reporter Dave Shampine has covered the police beat for more than four decades.

Now he's retiring.

Shampine began his newspaper career at the Times in 1971.

Friday was his last day covering murders, bank robberies, serial killers and local misdeeds.

Shampine was an expert at coaxing information from from reluctant newsmakers, police and eye-witnesses.

"You have to just make sure that you've got all the i's dotted and the t's crossed to make sure that you're getting the facts straight and the honest truth," said Shampine.

We wish you all the best in retirement!
