Veterans Outreach Center Opens In Watertown

For veteran advocate Melissa Amos, the new Veterans Outreach Center in Watertown is a dream come true.

"This is something that I wish would have been in place when I returned from my deployments," she said.

The Army veteran says the center will be a place for other veterans and their families to come together and support one another.

THere's a room for kids to hang out with fellow military kids, and another for support groups for veterans and their families.

"It's really there to be able to help other people who are going through the types of things I went though," said Amos.

The center was made possible with the help of two grants.

"It's beautiful, warm and inviting and that's what we need," said state Assemblywoman Addie Russell (D. - 118th District).

"I think it's important that this opportunity is here for soldiers when they come back to talk to somebody else with like experiences," said state Senator Patty Ritchie (R. - 48th District).

If you are a veteran or military family member and you'd like help, you can drop by the Veterans Center on State Street in Watertown.

"It's a blessing that we get to be here and I see huge things for this place," said Amos.
