Voters Nix Potsdam Recreation Funding Plan

Voters in Potsdam have turned down a proposal to change the way recreation programs are funded.

Right now, the town and village split the cost of running the arena and nearby beach. The proposal voted down Thursday would have shifted the burden to the entire township, causing taxes to increase for town residents who live outside the village.

The vote was 464 to 407 against the proposal.

Village Mayor Steve Yurgartis says it's not clear right now how the recreation program will be funded.
