Walk To Cure Diabetes Kicks Off

This year's North Country Walk to Cure Diabetes kicked off Saturday afternoon with people lacing up their skates.

The actual walk will be on September 15th at Thompson Park, but the Kick Off event this weekend was an opportunity for teams to get registered, all while having a good time at Showtime Skating in Watertown.

All money raised at the walk goes towards curing Type I Diabetes, also known as Juvenile Diabetes.

7 News talked to members of Team Michaela, one of the teams participating in the walk, about why they were taking part:

"Because I'm not the only one with Type I Diabetes. That's the thing. This is to find a cure for Type I Diabetes," explained Michaela Lamont, who was diagnosed with the disease in 2005.

"If there's anything I can do to help these kids out and make their lives more lively, just to be kids - and that's the thing: they want to be kids. They want to enjoy their lives, but they have this disease that kind of holds them back at times," said Gheorghe Banaduc Jr., a Team Michaela member.
