Watch: A 'Village' Rises In Watertown

Samaritan Summit Village - the new senior nursing and assisted living complex off Outer Washington Street in Watertown - is approaching completion.

When open, the facility will be home to almost 300 people, many of whom will come from the nursing home now located at the former Mercy Hospital downtown and from Whispering Pines, an assisted living facility owned by Jefferson County but operated by Samaritan Medical Center.

Samaritan Summit Village will provide homes for both seniors who need assistance but are still somewhat independent, and those who need more traditional nursing care.

"It's broken up into neighborhoods, people have common living areas, there's fireplaces, beautiful woodwork," said Krista Kittle, Samaritan Medical Center spokeswoman. "It definitely doesn't feel like an institution."

The facility is scheduled to open March 1.
