Cape Elementary Likely Spared
Much to the relief of many people in Cape Vincent, there's a recommendation to leave the village's elementary school open.
The Thousand Islands Central school board contemplated closing the school as a cost-cutting measure. Students would been sent to the elementary school in Clayton.
But Tuesday night, a consultant hired by the school district recommended the school stay open.
The consultant said the savings would only amount to $220,000, not enough, in his view, to close the school.
Parents in Cape Vincent rallied over the past several months to save the school. Watch Jessica Shaw's story by clicking on the picture above to see what they had to say Tuesday night.
