Watch: Craft Beer Gains Another North Country Outlet
A 'craft beer' brewery - and sit down restaurant - will open in Salmon Run mall in October, according to the brewery's owner.
"Skewed Brewing" will be located off the food court, down a corridor from the Regal Cinema movie theaters.
The owner expects to launch with three kinds of beer brewed on site, using some local ingredients.
"We're looking for local farmers for hops," said Ryan Chaif. "Hopefully we'll find some cheese producers."
Chaif already operates the "Hops Spot" in Sackets Harbor, and views the mall as a logical next step.
"We decided that this is a great opportunity to have in the mall. The spot's perfect in front of the movie theaters, and we're looking forward to bringing craft beer to Watertown."
The pending opening of "Skewed Brewing" is the latest sign of a small boom in craft beer making. Craft beers are, generally speaking, the products of small breweries. They offer a range of flavors not generally available in more traditional beers.
And the mall is just the start, says Chaif. Find out about his even bigger plans, and learn more about the popularity of craft beer, by clicking on the picture to watch Matt McClusky's report.
