We all accumulate stuff that's hard to get rid of - old bottles of prescription drugs, half used cans of paint, tvs and computers that no longer have a place in the house.
Problem is, none of that stuff should be thrown away either. It's not supposed to go in the landfill, and there usually isn't a good way to dispose of it.
With that in mind, the Development Authority of the North Country hired a hazardous waste disposal company to set up shop at the Jefferson County highway department Saturday. You could bring your waste there, and they'd take it off your hands.
The Development Authority operates the regional landfill in Rodman and is very mindful of what should - and should not - go in the landfill, which is why it holds several of these "disposal days" each year. Saturday's was the last of five held this year.
