Watch: No Sign Of Missing Man After Day Of Search
A day of searching in and along the shoreline of the Black River Sunday yielded no sign of a 47 year old man.
The man jumped into the waters of the Black River Saturday evening when his fishing companion, a five year old boy, fell in and the man attempted to save him.
It happened in Watertown, across from the restaurant 'Maggies On The River.' The boy's body was swiftly carried downriver and recovered Saturday night at the Glen Park hydroelectric dam.
The man is described as a friend of the five year old's family.
Police did not release the name of either person Sunday.
On Sunday, Jefferson County's STAR dive team searched the waters by the Glen Park dam, while Watertown city police and fire personnel searched the shoreline, to no avail.
"There's a lot of undercuts," said Mark Knowles, who commands the dive team. "Anything can get wedged and just never appear again."
"This is high water," he said. "We only go in if there's a justification to do it."
Private citizens also turned up to help search Sunday. One of them was a woman named July Towsley.
"We were out here searching today, me some of my family, friends, to see what we can do."
