Watch: On Maple Weekend, Producers Optimistic
This is the first of two Maple weekends, occasions for producers of Maple syrup and Maple candies to show off their wares.
And so far, this season shows signs of being better than last year's, when warm weather cut Maple production by as much as 50 percent.
At Massey Ranch on Coombs Road in Watertown, Shawn Massey said this year's weather has been the opposite of last year's.
"It's stopped flowing right now because the weather's too cold for us. But we're hoping that with the way the weather forecast looks, next week it will start running again," he said.
But, Massey added, ""I think it'll be a great season."
Wayyne Zehr, at Tug Hill Sweets and Treats in Copenhagen, said much the same thing. They've been able to produce limited amounts of Maple products so far, but "There's much more to come, I'm sure."
Meantime, Maple weekend continues across the north country Sunday. Many of the Maple producers offer rides and demonstrations of their work. A full list of who's open, when and where is available here.
