Watch: Shooting Victim Has North Country Ties

One of the people killed in this week's shootings in Herkimer County has north country relatives.

Michael G. Ransear, 57, of Herkimer, was killed Wednesday morning inside a barbershop in Herkimer. He was one of six shooting victims of Kurt Myers, 64, who was killed by police Thursday morning after an all-night stand-off.

No one knows why Myers launched his attack.

Ransear's niece, Becki Smith of Watertown, told 7 News Thursday that her uncle was a good family man who was known for helping people.

As for Myers, Smith said "He was nothing more than a coward. So I'm glad they got to him before he had a chance to harm himself. It's got to give some type of peace to my aunt and cousins."
