Watch: Watertown Father Gets Facebook Page, Public Backing
Daniel Avery, the Watertown man who allegedly strode into 'Tebb's Head Shop' Tuesday and started smashing things with a baseball bat, is drawing support. Avery, 49, faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon, crimial mischief and menacing. Because he was convicted of a crime 30 years ago, two charges are felonies. "I have to pay for my actions, that's the way it is, but somebody had to do it, it has to stop," Avery told 7 News Wednesday. As word of his actions spread, people in and around Watertown seemed to agree with Avery. A Facebook page supporting Avery was organized, and when 7 News returned to the shopping plaza where Tebb's is located, people who work and shop in the plaza's other stores were quick to say Avery did the right thing. "I would give him a high five and shake his hand. because I would have done the same thing," said Robert Kelsey. "We all commend him on what he did, because he was a father that took it into his own hands to try to make sure something was taken care of," added Nathan Tolotta. Only a few people had reservations about Avery's actions - they declined to appear on camera - and their comments were along the line of 'Once someone takes the law into his own hands, where does it stop?' Even Watertown mayor Jeff Graham weighed in, writing on his blog "What juror votes to convict the guy for busting up a head shop that was selling bath salts to his 24 year old son ?
