Watertown Airport Receives Grant For Taxiway

Watertown International Airport now has the green light on a long-awaited reconstruction project.

Jefferson County received a $1.8 million dollar grant from the Department of Transportation for the project.

It's for a new taxiway, which planes use to turn around between runways.

Barry Ormsby, the chair of the county's airport committee, says the grant has been in the works for months.

"We're very pleased to have the advocacy and have the support from our federal officials on this project," he said.

"It's been a great help to be able to make these enhancements and not do it on the backs of the local taxpayers."

Work on the taxiway is expected to be finished this fall.
