Within the next weeks, you will be able to get cash from ATMs inside Watertown City Hall and the fairgrounds arena.

"It's just a convenience. It's just one step in making things a little more consumer-friendly," Mayor Jeff Graham said. "That's ultimately the goal."

And it's the big reason city council approved a contract with B & S Business Services of Gouverneur to install and operate the two ATMs inside city buildings.

Taking cash out will cost you: $3 every time you use one of the A-T-Ms.

Two dollars will go to B & S Business Services, the other dollar will go to the city.

"I don't think that's too bad of an idea, because it helps the city out which you know the city's cash strapped as it is and a lot of the ATM fees around here are between $2 and $3," Watertown resident Jeremy Marshall said.

If you don't want to pay the fee, the arena will still accept your credit card.

The city clerk's office will, too, but using it there is expensive.

The card processing company charges a $6 fee for every credit card transaction.

"You get a $10 copy of a death certificate or something and you're paying $6 on it, that's not right," Graham said.

There are some services the city clerk's office will only accept cash for, mainly marriage licenses and wedding ceremonies.

"When you're at city hall and people have fines to pay or license fees or other things or just the convenience of getting money to go eat lunch or something, I think it's a good idea," Graham said.

And at least some people say the same thing about an ATM in the arena.

"I have three little kids and taking them out to get money anywhere else would be a pain in the neck," Dan Devine said.

As for the $3 ATM fee, frequent visitors to the arena say the convenience is worth the cost.
