Watertown Counts Traffic On City Streets

If you've driven around the city of Watertown, chances are you've driven over them.

Traffic counters can be found on Gotham and Sterling streets as well as Flower Avenue East in the city.

Despite what you may have heard, they're out to count cars, not catch anyone speeding.

It's an annual tradition of collecting information to see if certain streets will need some work done on them sooner than later.

"We try to get the data ahead of projects, like last year, we did a lot of counts on Factory Street because we were in the process of designing Factory Street," said City Engineer Kurt Hauk.

The plan is to leave the counters out until early fall.
