Watertown Golf Club Looks To Buy Land From City

The Watertown Golf Club has been serving the city of Watertown since 1926.

Right now, the club owns nine holes at the park.

There are still an additional nine holes that the club is leasing from the city.

The club can't make improvements on land it doesn't own, so it wants to buy holes 7 through 15 from the city and the land they're on.

"Basically we'd like to improve the golf course, which I think is a benefit to the city of Watertown as well as other golfers," said Joe Butler Sr., a member of the club's board of directors.

Butler says the club would plant trees and level out bumpy cart paths.

Plus, he says the purchase would be a hole in one for the city.

"If they were to sell the land to us, they could, as I said, have a substantial amount of money," said Butler.

"As far as I'm concerned, it would serve no one else a purpose and the Watertown Golf Club has been taking care of it for many, many years," said City Councilwoman Teresa Macaluso.

However, Macaluso says the state may have to approve the deal before the city can sell the property.
