Watertown Man Dies After Being Shot In Head

A Watertown man, who had been shot in the head in a city apartment, died from his injuries Thursday.

City police said 25 year old Jonathan McNair was pronounced dead shortly before noon at Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse.

According to police, McNair was shot at 3 a.m. Wednesday in Apartment 2 at 1021 Boyd Street.

One shot was fired from a .22 caliber handgun and struck McNair in the head near his left ear, police said.

McNair, who resided as 639 Emerson Street, was taken by ambulance to Samaritan Medical Center.

He was later transferred to the Syracuse hospital where he died.

The weapon was recovered.

Police said an autopsy will be performed Friday by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office.

Police Sergeant Joe Donoghue would not comment on whether the shooting was accidental, self-inflicted or a homicide.

He said the incident is under investigation.
