Watertown Marks National Prayer Day

Church leaders and parishioners from around Watertown gathered at City Hall Thursday to participate in the 61st Annual National Day of Prayer.

First established in 1952, the event has been held on the third day of May since 1988.

More than three dozen people turned out Thursday for prayers, music and fellowship.

Organizer Reverend Jeff Smith of First Baptist Church on Public Square says prayer is powerful when many people come together.

"When come together as one and we storm the heavens, you can feel the strength and the power of prayer," he said.

Thousands of events were held across the county to mark National Prayer Day.
