Watertown Native Uses Fashion Designs To Promote Local Artists

Watertown native Gretchen Scott's resort-wear has been seen on celebrities such as Katie Couric.

"We call it happy clothes for happy people. Women's clothing, dresses, tunics, pants, shorts, just wonderful, wonderful casual leisure clothes," said Scott.

Now, people in the north country can also sport "happy clothes".

Once only available in vacation spots like Jupiter, Florida, and the Hamptons, Scott's fashions can now be found at the North Country Arts Council's "Arts on the Square."

"There really aren't any clothing boutiques, exclusive boutiques in Watertown, so this is sort of putting us in a different directions and it also offers us a variety of items," said Hope Marshall of the North Country Arts Council.

But it's not only about being chic, it's also for a good cause.

Scott donated 200 "Enchanted Evening" tunics to the arts council, which were designed in conjunction with the organization's "Enchanted Gardens" fundraiser, taking place this weekend.

Both will benefit two projects the group is working on.

All money raised from tunic sales will go towards installing "artists in-residence" at north country schools, and will help develop a proposed "art theater" in downtown Watertown's Franklin Building.

Tunics are $85 and are expected to sell quickly because helping a good cause is always in fashion.
