Watertown Official Says 'Slide At Your Own Risk' At Thompson Park
There are concerns about the safety of sledding in Watertown.
City council member Jeff Smith says two kids have suffered broken legs from hitting the bales of hay at the bottom of the Thompson Park hill.
Smith has been advocating removing the bales, which are intended to stop sledders. He says they do more harm than good.
Smith would like to see netting replace the bales. Until that happens, he says people should sled at their own risk.
"You slide at your own risk and be cautious," he said.
"Obviously, we don't want to be a 'nanny state,' I'm not in favor of that, but there are some risks and just be cautious when doing it," Smith said.
The city is looking into buying the netting Smith is asking for.
