Watertown Officials Begin Work On Alcohol PolicyFrom concerts to baseball games, alcoholic beverages can be a big part of events in the city of Watertown, which is why city lawmakers are trying to lay the ground rules for selling and using alcohol. "We've been talking about this for months and months," said City Council member Joe Butler. "Let's go," he said. "Let's work hard to get something in place." At a City Council meeting Monday night, lawmakers sat down with a lawyer to hash out details on licensing and permitting alcohol at city-owned facilities. The sale of alcohol has been a controversial topic in recent months, but by the meeting's end, a proposed plan was in place. At the ballpark, the group leasing the field will apply for a seasonal license. If the event is for a nonprofit organization, like the Disable Persons Action Organization, the licensee will be responsible for serving the alcohol and making a donation to the nonprofit. Officials say at this time several entities are interested in leasing the ballpark. "We've got to find out who's really interested and has got the means to lease the facility for the year," Mayor Jeff Graham said. At the arena, alcohol sales will be handled on a per-event basis. The policy for the fair building will stay the same, with the nonprofit selling booze on a permit basis. People who want to drink alcohol at events at Thompson Park will have to bring their own, while complying with certain rules. This was the first meeting for Roxanne Burns since she was arrested for driving while intoxicated last week. She did not comment on the incident, but said she expects to release a statement soon.
