Watertown School Officials Discuss Layoffs, Staff Changes

MGN Online

The Watertown City School District is informing employees about layoffs and staff changes, according to School Board President Mike Flick.

Flick said Superintendent Terry Fralick is meeting with affected staff Monday, Tuesday and possibly Wednesday.

According to Flick, the district is speaking to some workers about layoffs and others about changes in their job descriptions.

"There will be some straight-out reductions in staff. We're going to accomplish as much as we can through retirement and those kinds of initiatives," said Flick.

Flick declined to disclose the number of people affected.

Earlier this month, the school board approved the district's 2013-2014 spending plan.

It would raise tax levy by 5 percent and dip heavily into reserves by $12 million.
Included are cuts to purchasing and staff.
