Watertown's Symphony in the Park Scheduled for July 3

Independence Day is just around the corner, and in Watertown, an annual tradition will continue.

It's the Symphony in the Park - a free Operation Yellow Ribbon concert that takes place every year in Thompson park.

This year, the event will once again feature Symphony Syracuse. It will begin at 5:15 p.m. on July 3rd, with a preshow by Fred and the Eds. There will also be a fireworks display after the concert.

The news that the Symphony in the Park concert will return for another year is music to a lot of people's ears.  Last year, it almost didn't happen because the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra went bankrupt.

But, thanks to donations from the community, and the group of musicians that came together to form "Symphony Syracuse", the show did go on.

And it was a huge success:

"I think a lot of people came out because they heard about what had happened to Symphony Syracuse, and they wanted to come out and show their support, show their support for the military," said Mary Corriveau, Operation Yellow Ribbon co-chair.

A rain date for this year's event has been scheduled for July 5th.
