'Wear Red Day' Promotes Heart Health For Women

The north country was a sea of red Friday in honor of the American Heart Association's Go Red For Women campaign.

February 1 marks the 10th year for the National Wear Red Day.

At Kinney Drugs and Jefferson County Public Health in Watertown, employees wore the color to bring attention to women's heart health. 

The Go Red For Women movement is designed to promote awareness about heart disease, which is the number one killer of women.

"We get talking about what it means, that heart disease (awareness) is important, especially for women," said Faith Lustik of Public Health.

"I notice a lot of the customers today, they have a lot of red on and it's nice to see it," said Wenday Rambone, a manager at Kinney Drugs.

As with men, the most common heart attack symptom in women is chest pain or discomfort.

But it's important to note that women are more likely to experience the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain.
