What Does 'Obamacare' Mean For You?

Tools

One of President Barack Obama's biggest accomplishments in his first term was the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. What does that mean for you?

Insurance agent Stephen Foy handles group plans, like the ones many people are on through their employers.

But those people may be fending for themselves when many of Obamacare's provisions kick in about 11 months from now.

Projections say it may be cheaper for small employers to get rid of group plans and let employees get their own health care through a state exchange.

It all depends on how many employees a company has.

"The one thing that I think has been misunderstood is that the small businesses, the less than 50, that they have some kind of requirement that they provide health insurance for their employees, or that they pay for health insurance for their employees -- they do not have to do that," Foy said.

There are many uncertainties on what the rates will actually be on a state exchange.

Experts say about a quarter of insurance agencies dealing with health care, like Foy's, will go out of business because of Obamacare.
