Whitton To Retire As Gouverneur's Police Chief

Longtime Gouverneur police chief David Whitton will officially retire May 30.

Whitton informed the village of his plans in a letter dated Wednesday.

Whitton is among the longest serving police officers in St. Lawrence County, wearing a Gouverneur police badge for 40 years.

The embattled chief has been working part-time after village officials cut hours in a cost saving move.
