The wife of an oral surgeon has been sentenced for filing a false tax return on income earned by her husband's Watertown dental practice.

Donna Schneeberger pleaded guilty in April in federal court.

The 53 year old Clayton woman admitted that the joint income tax return that she had signed and filed for tax year 2007 had failed to include income earned by the dental practice, for which she maintained the books and records.

She admitted that between 2005 and 2007, she had failed to report over $700,000 in income.

The court found that she had deprived the United States of taxes in excess of $230,000.

Schneeberger was sentenced to three years probation and a fine of $25,000 based in part on her extensive civic contributions in Watertown and Clayton.

Prior to sentencing, Schneeberger paid the unreported taxes.

The judge ordered her to pay all interest and penalties resulting from the criminal behavior as part of her probation.
