Will They Debate?

Democratic incumbent Senator Darrel Aubertine hit the phones in St. Lawrence County Thursday.

Meanwhile, his opponent, former St. Lawrence County Clerk Patty Ritchie, visited farms in Jefferson County.

On Friday, they'll meet face to face to discuss the issues at a debate being taped at WPBS for air later this month.

The senator says it's about time.

"The only thing that we've seen come out of the other campaign thus far is just some negative campaign literature," said Aubertine.

Aubertine says Ritchie has been unresponsive to other invitations to debate.

"My schedule is pretty full. I'm sure his is too. But, if we can agree on any dates that could work for both of us, then sure, I'm ready for them," said Ritchie.

But there are debate dates scheduled.

Senator Aubertine has accepted two - one on October 18 at SUNY Canton and another on October 19 at SUNY Oswego.

"I have every intention of being at both forums or all three forums for that matter and I would encourage my opponent to be there as well to help people understand where she stands on the important issues," said Aubertine

For Ritchie, it seems to be a scheduling issue.

She says her schedule has been booked for months, but with only 19 days left until election day, Aubertine says the people are eager for answers.
