Wind Damages Gouverneur GrandstandOne of the casualties of high winds from Hurricane Sandy was the grandstand at the St. Lawrence County Fairgrounds in Gouverneur. The wind severely damaged the grandstand's roof. Members of the board of the St. Lawrence County Fair were assessing the damage Tuesday morning. Board member Scooter Wetmore and fair association president Lyle Hotis climbed a ladder to survey the damage. Wetmore says the wind peeled back about 25 percent of the tarpaper roof. Hotis described the damage as "extensive." Sections of tarpaper were scattered around the grandstand. Fair officials say a local roofer will be called in to estimate the cost of repairs.
