Winter weather and travel advisories are in effect throughout the north country as heavy snow falls throughout the region and prompts cancellations.

The Lewis County Sheriff's Department has issued a travel advisory for the county.

The advisory, which is in effect until further notice, means that drivers should be extra cautious on the road.

The sheriff's department says blowing snow and snow-covered roads could make for hazardous driving conditions.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory until 7 p.m. Monday evening for Jefferson and Lewis counties.

Those counties could see up to 2 inches of snow and ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch this afternoon.

In St. Lawrence County, a winter weather advisory is in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday.

The region could see 4 to 6 inches of snow.
