Winter Wonderland Weekends Begin at Zoo

You don't always need a lot of snow to have a winter wonderland.

The New York State Zoo at Thompson Park has gone through a holiday makeover, with lights and decorations now lining the walkways and buildings.

It's all for the annual Winter Wonderland Weekends.

Starting this weekend, the zoo will open its doors at 5:30 p.m. each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night, allowing visitors to take in the holiday scenery.

But officials say there is more to this wonderland than lights and ornaments:

"Hopefully we'll get Santa Claus to come and visit later in the year, and maybe some singing groups if anybody wants to come out and help out," said John Wright, Executive Director of the NYS Zoo at Thompson Park.

"We do have some dance groups that are going to come out and do performances as well," he added.

The Winter Wonderland Weekends will continue at the zoo through the last weekend of December.
