Woman Accused Of Frying Up Grandmother's Pet Fish

A Watertown woman is behind bars for allegedly taking her grandmother's 12 pet goldfish from their tank and frying them in a pan until they were dead.

City police charged 21 year old Jessica Baughman with a felony count of aggravated cruelty to animals, second-degree harassment and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Police said they were called to 518 Stone Street early Friday morning after receiving a report of a domestic dispute.

According to police, Baughman pushed her grandmother twice during an argument.

The grandmother was identified as 63 year old Vera Nichols.

According to police, Nichols told officers that Baughman took her goldfish out of their tank and burned them in a frying pan on Thursday evening.

She reportedly showed officers proof by lifting the lid off the pan so they could see the dead fish.

Baughman is also accused of breaking a wooden statue of a wolf, which belonged to Nichols.

Baughman was arraigned in Watertown City Court.

According to court documents, Baughman "killed 12 goldfish in an especially depraved and sadistic manner when she removed them from a tank and placed them into a frying pan cooking them on a stove until they were deceased."

Baughman was ordered held in the Jefferson County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond.

Her next court appearance is set for April 24.
