Wounded Warriors Take On Privateers In Sled Hockey

Some wounded warriors got a warm reception on the ice Monday.

Fort Drum's Warrior Transition Unit, which provides therapy and other services to wounded soldiers, now has a sled hockey team.

On Monday, some of  its members drilled and scrimmaged with professionals, the Watertown Privateers.

It turned into an exhilarating and learning experience for both sides.

"It was a workout, I'll tell you that. It's physical therapy for sure," said Staff Sergeant Ronald Vanderhall, a sled hockey player.

"You get a sense of what they deal with...It's great we can be out here for them," said Colby Spooner, a player for the Privateers.

The Wounded Warriors Sled Hockey team has been around for two years.

It's looking to form a league with similar teams from Albany, Syracuse and Buffalo.
