Could military cuts be headed for Fort Drum? President Obama wants Congress to okay the process known as BRAC, or Base Realignment and Closure, in 2015:

Taxpayers in the town of Potsdam are up in arms over their property values. Assessment notices went out and it turned into sticker shock for some people:

 

Glad I'm not looking to buy a house in Potsdam.

Increased assessment does not equate to higher property taxes. If a property has been assessed for much lower than its actual value, that person has not been paying their fair share of the property taxes. Once everyone has been re-assessed, the burden is spread out more equitably.
