An off-duty corrections officer is accused of ramming his SUV into a vehicle which had his wife, children and mother-in-law inside. It happened on State Route 310 in the St. Lawrence County town of Potsdam and apparently began with a domestic incident:

You can add the Head Start preschool program in Jefferson County to the list of things affected by the shutdown of the federal government. The program has enough money to keep going until this Friday:

Due to the government shutdown, the World War II Veterans Memorial in Washington was closed. However, vets, including some from the north country, didn't let that stop them from seeing it:

 

Why is it news? The shutdown is hurting more than a WWII monument.
