The U.S. Supreme Court struck down part of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA, which denied benefits to same-sex couples.  The court also cleared the way for gay marriage to resume in California:

 

It's about time our right to love and spend our lives with who we wish is recognized.

Fewer youngsters will get the benefits of Head Start this fall because sequestration has resulted in cuts to the Community Action Planning Council of Jefferson County, the agency that oversees the program:
