The official start of furloughs for civilian workers on Fort Drum has begun. That means for the next 11 weeks, they will have to take one unpaid day off a week and bring home 20 percent less pay:

 

My husband is being furloughed. He will be losing $1,600 a month. This furlough is ridiculous. All it is doing is hurting families.

I am a DOD employee. I am looking at it with a silver lining because it means 3 day weekends during the summer and a little extra time to spend with my kids. We will adjust our budget accordingly.

A vacant Watertown home collapsed last week. City code officials said they had been warning the owner about the unsafe condition of the home for three years and even took him to court once:

 

Maybe next time he'll actually LISTEN to the code officials. They're paid to know what they're talking about.

Perhaps problems like this could be caught if the city's fire dept. was still allowed to do inspections.

Sad day! As teenagers and young adults our weekend trip to the Spaziani Bakery was a must.
