Youth Recognition Awards Presented

They're not necessarily the quarterback of the football team or the valedictorian of the senior class, but they are award winners in their own right.

The Jefferson County Youth Bureau handed out its 2012 Youth Recognition Awards today. 

Awards were given for volunteerism, leadership, promise and overcoming odds.

"My mom is a recovering drug addict and she has nine children. I've been in foster care twice because of it. I'm struggling. I have a two month old daughter and I'm trying to graduate and go to college and just get my life together," said Terrah Papineau, who won the award for overcoming odds.

Also recognized for her work with young people - Watertown Salvation Army Captain Evelyn Hopping.
