Zoo Announces Birth Of Canada Lynx Kittens

The New York State Zoo at Thompson Park in Watertown welcomed the birth of a litter of Canada lynx last Thursday.

The kittens were born to mother Chayne, age 5, and father Abraham "Abe" Lynxon (pictured), age 2.

Zoo officials aren't sure exactly how many kittens were born because Chayne isn't letting anyone close to her or her babies.

Officials said it will still be some time before the kittens are allowed onto the exhibit space.

In November 2011, the NYS Zoo received information about a male Canada lynx born in May 2011 at the Assiniboine Zoo in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Abe was made available as part of a breeding program.

Abe and Chayne were introduced in May of 2012.
