'Zoom' At The ZooYou could call it the fast and the furriest. It's Zoom at the New York State Zoo at Thompson Park, an annual fundraising event this past weekend with everything from classic cars to the latest models on display. Visitors even had a chance to get a hands-on look at some top-of-the line military vehicles from Fort Drum. Cars and critters may not seem like an obvious pairing, but they certainly draw a good crowd. "We're trying to hope that we can also get the parents excited about coming to the zoo," said John Wright, the zoo's executive director. "The kids and the parents can learn about conservation together," he said. "I think this is a great opportunity for Fort Drum and the community to link up together and be able to express how we feel about each other," said the 10th Mountain Division's John Ippolito. This year is the first year Zoom has been held on the grounds of the zoo itself. One big bonus: a chance to check out some of the new animals. |
