jcpenney Gives USO $1 Million Donation

It was a big night for the USO. The national organization got a million dollar check Friday night at the Watertown Fairgrounds.

The check is from jcpenney, and was given to officials at the Blake Shelton concert as part of the "jcpenney Cares' campaign.

The company also bought hundreds of tickets for the show and gave them to the USO Fort Drum to hand out to soldiers and their families.

"A lot of people talk about patriotism and what it means to be a patriot. I think when you see companies like this do things specifically for military families - 'how can we help?' 'how can we support the military?' - I think it's tremendous and we're very grateful," said COL Noel Nicolle, Fort Drum Garrison Commander.

Nicolle points out that while this was a wonderful event for soldiers who were home for it, the community can't forget that there are still about 1,200 Fort Drum soldiers, mostly from the 10th Sustainment Brigade, currently deployed to Afghanistan.
