Wednesday: Five Charged In Lewis Welfare Case

Five people were charged Tuesday with welfare fraud in Lewis County.

The arrests were the result of a joint investigation between the Lewis County sheriff's department and the Lewis County social services department.

Charged were:

- Dale A. Johnson, 57, Port Lyden

- Ajia L. Myers, 22, Lyons Falls

- Beryle E. Van Patton, 69, Lowville

- Kyle J. Platt, 20, Constableville

- Kevin N. Yelton, 34, Lyons Falls

Charges included offering a false instrument for filing, first degree; welfare fraud, third and fourth degree; and petit larceny.

A total of $9,453 was involved, according to a press release from the sheriff's department. The charges involve claims for public assistance and time sheets submitted for payment for child care.

All of the people charged were released to await grand jury action.
