Wednesday: Five Charged In Lewis Welfare CaseFive people were charged Tuesday with welfare fraud in Lewis County. The arrests were the result of a joint investigation between the Lewis County sheriff's department and the Lewis County social services department. Charged were: - Dale A. Johnson, 57, Port Lyden - Ajia L. Myers, 22, Lyons Falls - Beryle E. Van Patton, 69, Lowville - Kyle J. Platt, 20, Constableville - Kevin N. Yelton, 34, Lyons Falls Charges included offering a false instrument for filing, first degree; welfare fraud, third and fourth degree; and petit larceny. A total of $9,453 was involved, according to a press release from the sheriff's department. The charges involve claims for public assistance and time sheets submitted for payment for child care.
