Obama Picks U.S. Marshal For Northern District
President Barack Obama has tapped a top-ranking New York State Police investigator to be the next U.S. Marshal of the Northern District.
Maj. David McNulty, a 30-year veteran of the police force, is the current section head of the Criminal Investigation Bureau and supervises about 1,300 people.
U.S. marshals are the "enforcement arm of federal courts and, as such, are involved in virtually every federal law enforcement initiative."
The Northern District includes 32 counties, including Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence.
The nomination was announced by Sen. Chuck Schumer, who had recommended McNulty for the position.
