Your Turn: Your Feedback On Medal Of Honor, Budget Gap

Tools

Sergeant 1st Class Jared Monti, a Fort Drum soldier, posthumously received the Medal of Honor last week. President Barack Obama presented the medal to Monti's parents.

Here's one of your emails:

I served with SFC Monti the months prior to his death. He made me want to be a better soldier. I can not imagine a more deserving NCO of this medal. You will never be forgotten, brother.

St. Lawrence County is looking at a multi-million dollar budget gap and officials are considering their options including a sales tax hike as well as cuts in jobs and services.

Here's a sampling of your messages:

Legislators in this county should take a real good look at how department heads spend money.  Employees see how taxpayer monies are spent.

Scott Whitehill

It's about time they cut some white collar jobs instead of raising taxes for people who can barely afford to live right now.

Mike Smith

Since the legislators want everyone to make concessions, how about them giving up the insurance benefits and other perks they get?

Rod Harvey

I honestly don't think that this is the time to be cutting jobs in our county, when there is already so much being demanded of those people. We should be trying to find a way to hire a few more people for certain departments so that the caseloads are more manageable. I would be more than willing to pay a little more sales tax to help maintain services.

It's time to change the leadership on the state and local level. It's apparent the people running it now can't handle money.
