Your Turn: Your Feedback On Ogdensburg Prison & Charity Fundraisers

Under Governor Paterson's proposed budget, the Ogdensburg Correctional Facility would be closed to save the state money.

Most of your emails are about that subject:

Please don't close this prison.  The north country can't afford a BLOW LIKE THAT!!!!

Robin Downey

Close it. There are not enough inmates there to remain open.

Larry Deets

I don't see one prison in Dutchess, Orange or Sullivan County being closed. These facilities are manned by officers from northern NY who are awaiting transfer back home. Most of those facilities are old, not up to compliance and are in need of closing in comparison with the mostly modern facilities that were built here in the north country.

John Harris

I am a correctional officer and have already been waiting over 2 1/2 years to come to one of my home facilities and closing Ogdensburg...would just make the wait longer and harder on our families.

Jessica Goodale

If the governor really wants to cut spending and save money, he should look at the top and start with all the high executive salaries.

Wess Adams

The state should take some perks away from the inmates.  The inmates have better health care than the rest of the people in NYS.

John Reed

This kind of job loss in Ogdensburg would be crippling.  The result would have a dramatic economic impact on housing, retail, food establishments and other important markets within our region.

Scott Boyer

If you donated to some north country police and firefighter associations, much of your money might have wound up in the hands of telemarketers rather than the charity.

This is what one viewer had to say:

When organizations call and want me to donate, I simply inform them that they should come to my residence in proper uniform and proper ID and then I will "think" about a contribution.
