Your Turn: More On Hillary, The Big Rain & Go Maia!

Diane Rutherford is off for the holiday, so Jeff Nelson dug into the mailbag for this week's "Your Turn."

On Friday, we learned of an online petition and letter writing campaign to keep accused killer Nick Hillary behind bars with no bail. Hillary is accused in the 2011 killing of Garrett Phillips of Potsdam.

From Facebook, Liz O'Dette Currier noted "This man has not even gone to trial yet. Sounds like you're all ready to hang him."

Also from Facebook, John H. Wolfe wrote " Leave it to the justice system to work out the details. Too much interference from the public could make it more difficult for both the DA and the defense to give this man a fair trial."

On the other hand, William Andrus said it comes down to this: "Murder should be no bail, period."

A storm Thursday dumped up to seven inches of rain in just a few hours in Port Lyden. The damage to homes and roads and people's lives is great.

Connie Capone wrote "Pray for them and better weather."

And patty Bergman summed it up with just one word: "WOW!!"

Finally, many of you were inspired by Maia Chamberlain, the eighth grader from the South Jefferson school district with cerebral palsy who has joined South Jeff's track team.

Susanne Bush wrote to say she has a granddaughter with cerebral palsy.

"She has braces and is so determined when she falls to get up and go again. Maia is an inspiration for children and grown ups who give up."

And Donnelle Thompson wrote "We could all learn from this child about having compassion for those with handicaps! Great job!"
