A Watertown man was asked for his DNA to see if he has a Civil War connection. The Navy thinks Darrell Littlefield may be related to George Littlefield, who went down with the USS Monitor in 1862.  He was also surprised to suddenly receive a card from the White House:

You would think it would be cheaper and easier for the government to check genealogical records than come and ask for a DNA sample. Sounds way too intrusive.

I have a brother who was a prisoner during the Korean War. The Dept. of Army put his name on the list of missing service men which goes to the White House mailing list. I have been getting a card since 2003.
